Why We Need Gmail Access

Hired automates your job search by sending personalized application emails directly from your Gmail account to hiring managers and recruiters. This requires specific permissions to operate on your behalf.

Permissions We Request:

1. Send emails (gmail.send)

Purpose: Send job application emails from your Gmail account when you explicitly trigger a job search.

When it's used: Only when you click "Search Jobs" and initiate an application campaign.

What we send: Personalized job application emails with your CV attached, sent to hiring managers and recruiters.

2. Read Gmail metadata (gmail.metadata)

Purpose: Verify email delivery status and detect replies from recruiters to track your application progress.

What we access: ONLY delivery confirmation and reply detection metadata. We do NOT read, analyze, store, or access the content of your emails or inbox.

Why it's needed: To confirm successful email delivery and automatically update your dashboard when recruiters reply.

How Your Data is Protected

We take the security of your Gmail access seriously:

  • Encrypted Storage: Gmail access tokens are stored encrypted in our secure database
  • Automatic Refresh: Access tokens are automatically refreshed when needed without requiring re-authorization
  • Immediate Deletion: When you disconnect Gmail or delete your account, all tokens are immediately deleted from our systems
  • Limited Scope: We only request the minimum permissions necessary for our service to function
  • Secure Transmission: All communications with Gmail API use HTTPS/TLS encryption

How to Revoke Access

You have complete control over Gmail access and can revoke it at any time:

Method 1: From Hired Dashboard

  1. Go to Account Settings
  2. Click "Disconnect Gmail"
  3. Confirm disconnection
  4. All Gmail tokens are immediately deleted from our database

Method 2: From Google Account

  1. Visit Google Account Permissions
  2. Find "Hired" in the list of connected apps
  3. Click "Remove Access"
  4. Hired will no longer be able to access your Gmail

Google API Compliance

Hired's use of Gmail APIs is fully compliant with Google's policies:

  • We adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements
  • We only use Gmail data for the specific purposes disclosed to you during authorization
  • We do not transfer Gmail data to third parties except as necessary to provide our service
  • We maintain appropriate security measures to protect your Gmail data
  • Our privacy practices are transparent and disclosed in our Privacy Policy

Can you read my personal emails or conversations?

No. We only verify delivery status and detect replies related to job applications. We do not read, store, or analyze the content of your emails.

Will you send emails without my permission?

What happens to my Gmail access if I cancel?
